The Tocqueville Fellowship
A Unique Immersive Journey

Our Vision

Shaping Tomorrow's Leaders

The Tocqueville Fellowship is driven by a unique vision: to inspire, equip and connect the next generation of French leaders.

Since 2003, the Tocqueville Fellowship has been committed to nurturing a dynamic community of French leaders. Through our immersive Fellowship, alumni network, and conferences, we offer a unique platform for professional development and personal growth. Our ultimate goal is to see our recipients apply their knowledge and experiences to contribute to the common good of France.

Our Mission

Inspire, Equip, Connect

The Tocqueville Fellowship was founded in 2003 by civic entrepreneur Alexandre Pesey and based in the heart of Paris. Each year the Tocqueville Fellowship selects a group of promising young leaders through a jury of civic entrepreneurs for a two-week journey to Washington, D.C. This experience is not merely a trip but a deep dive into the heart of American political power, reflecting the spirit of exploration cherished by Alexis de Tocqueville.

Our Fellows benefit from a comprehensive educational and cultural immersion, participating in seminars and training sessions at renowned institutes on a variety of topics, from public policy to governmental operations.

For each Fellow, this program is a unique opportunity to meet policymakers, journalists, and academics involved in American political life. Facilitating an enriching and one-of-a-kind exchange of ideas, the Tocqueville Scholarship enables Fellows to enhance their skills in political communication and influence.

Our Name

Alexis de Tocqueville,
an Inspiration and an Aspiration

The Tocqueville Fellowship aims to emphasize the importance of civic engagement, a central theme in Alexis de Tocqueville’s in-depth study of American and French societies. It offers an opportunity to continue the role of a keen observer of democratic systems, as exemplified by the author of “Democracy in America.” Following de Tocqueville’s example, we encourage the exploration of the dynamics of modern democracies and their impact on society.

The Tocqueville Scholarship seeks to enrich the understanding of democratic principles among emerging leaders while promoting exchange and critical analysis. Inspired by Tocqueville, we foster deep reflection on the role of civil society and political leadership.

Today, the Alumni encourage
and maintain a network of
mutual support and serve as eloquent testimonials to the opportunities offered by the Tocqueville Fellowship.
